Tips To Stop Dog Barking Problems

There are quite a few problematic behaviors a dog could have, and one of the worst problems is dog barking. There are plenty of causes behind a dog who barks, and the reasons behind it should be examined carefully so that the dog barking can be brought to an end. Something in the dog’s surroundings will be responsible for eliciting the barking. A dog may be making efforts to assert their dominance over another dog or animal around them. Or the dog may bark to declare its territorial borders. And it may bark just because it likes to bark. A lack of socialization with other dogs, causes certain dogs to develop a barking problem, but for other dogs, they find that barking is a way to achieve their demands.

Curing the Problem

Many dog owners just make the barking problem worse by rewarding their dog when the barking stops; of course, this kind of negative attention is only a short-term fix. It’s absolutely essential for a dog to be taught that barking is simply unacceptable, and the owner won’t reward this type of behavior. When an owner shouts at their dog for their barking, this only reinforces their behavior and is a form of negative attention. If an owner lets a dog in the house that has been constantly barking outside, this also sends the message that such behavior will be tolerated – and the behavior will just continue and probably get worse. Comforting a barking dog or giving it a doggy treat to quiet it down is yet another way of reinforcing a dog barking problem, which is not going to stop.

There are a few training techniques you could use to fix a dog barking problem. One technique involves remaining indifferent to the barking when he starts up at the doorbell or ringing telephone. When the doorbell or telephone rings, a dog owner needs to remain where they are and not respond in any way, thus indicating to the dog that they should not be anxious or alert about those noises. During your dog training period, it’s a good idea to let the phone and doorbell ring frequently so that the dog can grow accustomed to the sound. Eventually, it won’t react when it hears household sounds.

There are also methods for avoiding dog barking issues when the owner is away from home. Ensuring that your dog has adequate diversions, ample active play time, and has no reason to feel anxious, are all positive steps to be taken to avoid barking problems when you are not home. If a dog continually engages in barking during their owner’s absence, the owner should refrain from greeting the dog when they finally get home until they have completely calmed down. When a dog is quiet and not barking the owner should offer them praise, but when there is barking, the dog owner needs to discipline their dog to ensure they understand there is a consequence for their behavior (including a shock collar or loud, sharp noises).
